ILA Local 1588 and all longshore crafts have been challenged to participate in Bayonne’s Charity Softball game to help The American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life”.

Team Reann’s Angels is looking for donations to help them reach the goal of $10,000.00.

If you are interested in joining the ILA Team we will have a practice game—date/time to be determined.

Work stoppage at Port of Seattle after worker dies in accident

Port of Seattle's Terminal 18A longshore worker has died of injuries he suffered in a workplace accident Thursday on Harbor Island, triggering a day-long work stoppage at the Port of Seattle.
Longshoremen’s Union Local 19 called a 24-hour work stoppage at the Port of Seattle after the worker’s death, as allowed under their labor contract. The work stoppage is intended to allow workers time to grieve and to give investigators an opportunity to find out what happened.

Maersk signs contract to stay with Port of Seattle

Last week The News Tribune speculated that the Port of Tacoma’s updates to its Pier 3 infrastructure would allow the port to host Maersk Line’s new “Triple E” containerships, the world’s largest vessels.
The Port of Tacoma had been recruiting Maersk to return to Tacoma after it left two years ago to join its containership partner CMA CGM at the Port of Seattle.
But now Port of Tacoma spokeswoman Tara Mattina says Maersk has signed a contract that will keep it calling at the Port of Seattle for several more years.

NYK Ends Free Chassis in Pacific Northwest

NYK Line (North America) said it would quit providing chassis to customers in the Tacoma-Seattle-Portland market, effective July 1. … As ocean carriers have reduced their direct involvement in providing chassis directly to shippers, leasing companies and other third parties have stepped up their programs for rental of chassis to truckers.
