The PUC’s September 2010 decision to allow Pasha to operate between Honolulu and Kahului Harbor on Maui, Hilo Harbor on the Big Island and Nawiliwili Harbor was granted on an interim basis after Young Brothers Ltd., the state’s largest interisland shipped, opposed the application, saying Pasha chose only the profitable interisland routes. Young Brothers had requested the PUC reconsider the decision, but the PUC denied the request.Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines ended its interisland shipping service in Hawaii at the end of 2013 after the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission’s 2010 interim decision allowing the shipper to operate interisland service expired.
The Maui News reports a spokeswoman for Pasha said the shipping company, which is headquartered in San Rafael, Calif., and operates service between Hawaii and the West Coast, won’t reapply for a permanent permit to resume interisland service.

A lengthy and complex process to annex West Hayden Island for a future marine terminal, habitat preservation and recreational amenities came to an end this week when the Port briefed its Commission and informed Portland Mayor Charlie Hales that it is formally withdrawing its consent to annex the property into the City of Portland.
“The terms under which annexation has been proposed by the City would simply render a future development on the property impossible,” said Bill Wyatt, executive director for the Port of Portland. “We understand from the Mayor that Portland City Council is unwilling to take action to modify these proposals at this time, so we cannot justify the investment of more time and money into the process.”
