Foss Maritime parent firm buys K-C site in Everett:
Kimberly-Clark Corp. has agreed to sell the site of its former waterfront mill to the Seattle-based parent company for Foss Maritime Co. Under the plan, some 250 skilled maritime employees would relocate to Everett from Foss’ current location along Seattle’s Ship Canal, near Lake Union. The Port of Everett had shown interest in the mill property, but is now out of the running. [Everett Herald]
Foss adds two tractor tugs:
Foss Maritime announced the addition of two tractor tugs to its Columbia River fleet. The first of these 4,400-horsepower tugs will begin river operations as early as November. Captain Dustin Johnson, Regional Operations Manager, Columbia Snake River, added, “Existing grain and port facilities are experiencing new levels of business – and there are several development projects along both the Columbia and the Snake that are in various stages of approval.” [Marine Link]

China Shipping has set up a wholly-owned subsidiary, China Shipping (South America) Holding, in Sao Paulo, Brazil, which will become the investment, planning, management and service center of China Shipping in South America.
The new company will be engaged in investment and management of shipping, ship agency, freight forwarding, and logistics.
The establishment of the South America company will expand the company’s business in the region and improve risk control in South America, the company said.

John ReinhartJohn Reinhart, the president and CEO of Norfolk-based Maersk Line Ltd., was named the new executive director of the Virginia Port Authority on Thursday.
Reinhart was chosen from a field of 71 applicants, 10 of whom were interviewed. He announced earlier this month that he planned to retire from Maersk at the end of January. The line is a U.S.-flag unit of Danish conglomerate A.P. Moller-Maersk Group. Reinhart will begin his job at the Port Authority in February.
