As part of the permanent dialogue with the shipping industry, a Panama Canal Authority (ACP) delegation headed by Administrator Jorge L. Quijano visited South Korea to hold discussions with the vehicle carrier market segment and obtain feedback on the future toll structure being developed by the ACP that will go in effect upon completion of the Canal Expansion Program.
Canal officials met with the Korea Shipowners’ Association, Hanjin Shipping and STX Pan Ocean, Ltd. The delegation also met with several vehicle and heavy equipment companies.
In addition, Canal officials met with SK Energy and to discuss the new possibilities that the expanded Canal will open to trade of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Shippers are working together to control rising transportation costs much more than is widely realized, a survey of more than 100 companies shows.
More than half the companies surveyed, 54.9 percent, told the National Shippers Strategic Transportation Council (NASSTRAC) they collaborate with other shippers as well as carriers to control transportation costs.
More than a third of the shippers surveyed by NASSTRAC, 38 percent, shifted some freight from trucks to intermodal rail or railcars over the past year.

Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP (KMP), the biggest U.S. pipeline company, said first-quarter profit more than tripled as it expanded its interstate pipeline network.
Net income increased to $783 million from $206 million in the same quarter of 2012, Houston-based Kinder Morgan said in a statement this week. After payments to parent company Kinder Morgan Inc., Kinder Morgan earned 97 cents per unit, compared with a 33-cent loss a year ago. Revenue rose to $2.7 billion from $1.8 billion in the first quarter of 2012.
