Antonio ”Dodong” Petalcorin, the leader of the Network of Transport Organizations (NETO-APL-ITUC), was shot and killed on July 2nd in front of his home. He is one of six unionists killed recently in the Philippines.The ITF has expressed its outrage to the Philippines government over the second murder of a transport trade union leader in less than three weeks.
Kagi Lucman, president of the Notre Dame Village Operators and Drivers Association – part of the ITF-affiliated National Confederation of Transport workers’ Unions – was shot after dropping his children at school. His death follows that of Antonio ‘Dodong’ Petalcorin, president of the Davao city-based Network of Transport Organizations (NETO), who was shot to death on 2 July 2013.
The ITF has protested to the president of the Philippines, and to the chair of the Philippines government Commission on Human Rights. Its acting general secretary, Steve Cotton, told them:
